Some Laboratory Studies of the Moisture-Density Relations of Soils
SourceThis is a report of the study of the moisture-density relationship of several different types of soils from various sections of the United States. Laboratory tests were made using the standard round-head rammer and comparing the results with the sector-head rammer. Also, hand compacted specimens were compared with those compacted by an automatic tamper. Compactive efforts of both the 5.5-lb rammer with a 12-in. drop and the 10-lb rammer with an 18-in. drop were used. The study also shows the variation in density in different sections of the specimens as well as the effect of taper of the molds on the density of the compacted soil.
