Ion Exchange in Analytical and Radiochemistry
SourceThe use of solid adsorbents for the removal of impurities from water dates from the earliest recorded history. However, recognition of the phenomenon of ion exchange can probably be attributed to Thompson (1) and Way (2) over 100 years ago. The introduction of synthetic ion exchangers by Adams and Holmes (3) eliminated many of the limitations of siliceous ion exchangers and laid the ground work for production of the high-capacity and selective resins in use today.
