A Radiation-Effects Program
SourceThe various steps and procedures in a program for the study of the effects of radiation on nuclear fuels are discussed. These include inspection of the test specimens before irradiation, design of the radiation capsule, irradiation in a nuclear reactor, and inspection after irradiation.
Examples of the equipment and facilities required are presented. These include examples of radiation capsules, capsule-loading equipment, irradiation facilities, and hot-cell laboratories.
Some of the special problems encountered and examples of costs of conducting a radiation-effects program on an industrial basis are considered.
