Adhesives must be tested as component parts of a bond. This is the crux of many of the difficulties and uncertainties associated with the evaluation of adhesives. Their properties in bulk may be different from the properties determined in bonded assemblages. Consequently, the testing of adhesives involves the simultaneous testing of the associated adherends, and the interactions of the two profoundly affect the results.
