Special Corrosion Study of Carbon and Low-Alloy Steels
SourceA great deal has been published on the use of carbon steel as a structural material; on corrosion problems in hot water, steam boilers, and heat transfer applications; and on water treatment procedures to inhibit such corrosion. It is therefore surprising to find little, if any, quantitative corrosion data on carbon steel in high-temperature pure water. This is particularly disappointing if one is interested mainly in quantitative amounts of corrosion as actual metal lost, in the form of some average figure of weight per unit area. The support of various government agencies and prime contractors has enabled procurement of such data reported in this paper.
