The New York State Bureau of Soil Mechanics has been using both electrical resistivity and seismic methods of exploration as aids in determining subsurface conditions for a wide variety of engineering applications during the past 3½ years. The original equipment consisted of a Gish-Rooney type electrical resistivity apparatus and a three-channel seismograph with carbon granule seismometers. Approximately a year ago two additional twelve-channel seismograph outfits with electro-magnetic seismometers and two-stage signal amplification were procured.
