Those interested in the history of the general application of chromium to steels are referred to other sources (1).² The present purpose is to consider only the chromium steels for applications involving extreme conditions of service with respect to high temperatures, abrasion and corrosion; an effort has been made for brevity in presenting the data. The author takes pleasure in acknowledging the helpful cooperation of Messrs. R. E. Brown of the Electro Metallurgical Sales Corp., V. B. Browne and Charles A. Scharschu of Allegheny Steel Co., W. F. Furman of The Duraloy Co., F. K. Ziegler of the Ohio Steel Casting Co. and also permission to include much information from the files of the Union Carbide and Carbon Research Laboratories.
