Electrical Testing of Electrical Apparatus at High Temperatures in Vacuum
SourceRepresentative models of several space power electrical devices have been assembled for an application study of selected materials which is in progress at this time. The types of devices include a typical stator, solenoid, and transformer. The materials for these devices were chosen from a large group of metallic and nonmetallic electrical materials which had been examined under an earlier test program. The maximum operating temperature for these specimens is 1100 F. The specimens are being exposed and operated in a vacuum of about 1 × 10−8 torr. This paper discusses the designs of the test specimens, the test environment, and the methods and results to date of electrical measurements.
