The Development of Artificial Heart Valves
SourceIn the development of cardiac valves we are constrained by various factors, materials, perhaps, is the most important. In addition, we must adapt design to the geometry or anatomy of the region in which we are working, the influence of which must be of major consequence in the performance of the devices that we develop. We are primarily concerned with two valves, the mitral and aortic, although one other, the tricuspid, is sometimes in need of replacement.
