Chapter 4 Combustion
SourceLiquid petroleum fuels of different combustion characteristics are required for the widely different conditions under which such fuels must perform. The combustion characteristics of motor and aviation fuels are quite different from those of diesel fuels, although all three are burned in the cylinders of internal combustion engines. Illuminating and heating oils must burn under conditions of low pressure as an open flame, and combustion characteristics best suited to this type of operation are required.
