Electrostatic Enhancement of Fabric Filtration
SourceIncorporating electrical forces into the design of fabric filters provides reduced pressure drop and improved collection efficiency, as compared with conventional practice. Improvement has been demonstrated for a number of filter and electrode geometries, and pilot plant operations have been successful at a number of field sites. The mechanisms whereby electrostatic forces improve fabric filter performance include: 1) reduced dust penetration and/or retention in the depth of the filter; 2) the formation of a dust cake having increased porosity; and 3) non-uniform deposition of dust on a filter surface.
