Particle Collection Mechanisms Pertinent to Granular Bed Filtration
SourceFlow fields and particle collection mechanisms in the maximum penetration regime are reviewed. Simple equations are introduced for predicting the size of the aerosol particles that most effectively penetrate a granular bed, and the corresponding minimum collection efficiency. Influences of filter operating velocity and granule size are also discussed. The results show that the most penetrating particle size for a granular bed filter exists as a result of either the Brownian diffusion mechanism combined with gravitation or Brownian diffusion with the interceptional mechanism.
