Composite materials technology is in need of specific definition. The use of terms such as fiber, filament, and composite must be defined and testing procedures standardized. The need for further research in the areas of interfaces, fabrication, and joining has been recognized and is being carried forward by the Air Force Materials Laboratory. Greater attention to an interdisciplinary approach to composite technology is required for continued progress in the field.
