Plastic Wave Propagation in Rods
SourceIf one examines the mechanics of an elastoplastic wave traveling along the axis of a thin rod, one can readily write down two equations relating the stress, σ, the strain, ϵ, and the particle velocity, ν, in terms of the independent variables, the position, ±, and the time, t. The two equations are obtained by use of the conservation of momentum and the condition of continuity on a small element. However, for a complete solution of the dependent variables, one additional equation relating σ to ϵ is necessary. It is the assumption as to the form of this equation that distinguishes the various plastic wave propagation theories.
