Metallurgical Effects of Explosive Straining
SourceIntroduction of explosive forming techniques for aerospace vehicle components has raised the question of the effects of explosive strain rates on the mechanical and microstructural properties of metals. Such information is vital to the designer who must maintain maximum strength and minimum weight. It is also essential that the formability of materials at practical explosive strain rates be established. This information enters into considerations of material selection, production planning, tool design, and blank configuration.
