In the development of nuclear reactors, stringent requirements are placed on all the reactor components. Each piece, section, and assembly is subjected to various nondestructive tests for the purposes of quality control. At Argonne National Laboratory a 10 1/2-ft ultrasonic scanner was designed and fabricated for testing reactor components. This paper describes the scanner and recording system and its particular application in the reactor field.
