Of the non-ferrous materials considered for use in the Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR), zirconium and hafnium exhibit outstanding corrosion-resistance to reactor environment. The high cost and scarcity of these materials make the yield in processing them a matter of utmost importance. Nondestructive testing is playing an important part in aiding in the control of the many variables encountered during the melting and fabricating of these materials.
