Fatigue of Structural Metals Under Random Loading
SourceThe fatigue life under randomly varying stress amplitudes is discussed in terms of the “interaction” between infrequent high stress amplitudes and the dominant low stress amplitudes. An “interaction factor” is developed with the aid of which the validity of a pseudo linear rule of cumulative damage is demonstrated for structural aluminum.
The statistical aspect of fatigue under random loading is considered and the relation established between the distributions of fatigue lives under randomly varying and under constant stress amplitudes as well as between the form of the distribution of fatigue lives and the “risk” of fatigue failure.
