Appendix: Methods of Testing
SourceNot all efforts to discover the properties of materials deal with determination of their composition. Some tests are devised to determine the over-all effect, or a definite property, of the material. For instance, no chemical analysis would show how a water would corrode a material. It might be deduced from analysis that the water would be corrosive to certain materials, but the manner or speed of the corrosion could not be predicted.
