Factors Affecting Bond of Mortar to Brick

The ability to bond brick to make a waterproof and structurally sound wall is the most important property of a masonry mortar. All other properties are incidental. If the bond is poor, seepage through the wall will necessitate waterproofing. The outside of the wall will be covered with efflorescence; on the inside, wall paint will peel and plaster will disintegrate.
