Electron Probe Analysis of Segregation in Inconel
SourceElectron probe microanalysis of precipitates in Inconel-X high-temperature alloy showed that the submicron grain boundary precipitates were rich in chromium but poor in other metallic elements. Precipitates several microns in size that formed in the matrix material or near grain boundaries were rich in columbium (niobium) and titanium but poor in chromium. The titanium and columbium content was not uniform from one precipitate to another or even within a single precipitate, and some precipitates showed a definite coring effect with a rich layer of columbium surrounding a titanium core.
