This Part 3 of the A.S.T.M. Manual on Quality Control of Materials gives formulas, tables, and examples which are useful in applying the control chart method of analysis and presentation of data. This method requires that the data be obtained from several samples or that the data be capable of subdivision into subgroups on the basis of relevant engineering information. Although the principles of this Part are applicable generally to many kinds of data, they will be discussed herein largely in terms of the quality of materials and manufactured products.
