A Physical Interpretation of Coal Sampling Variances with Application to Sample Reduction
SourceA physical interpretation may be applied to the statistical variances calculated from coal sampling data by relating one of them to a randomly mixed portion of the coal, and the other to a segregated portion. Use of general weightconsist relations makes it possible to extend this interpretation to sample reduction. The importance of assuring a sufficient degree of mixing in the gross sample is discussed and emphasized.
