The oral presentations in this symposium represent considerable condensation of the original papers. If I were to attempt to condense them still further, the result might be similar to that of the radioactive waste treatment processes described in the papers—the greater the degree of concentration, the more objectionable the end product. Therefore, the aim of this summation is not to summarize the content of the individual papers but to summarize the symposium as a whole and examine its significance to ASTM Committee D-19 on Industrial Water and Industrial Waste Water.
