Fatigue Crack Formation in Silver Chloride
SourceSilver chloride specimens have been stressed to fatigue failure by reverse plane bending to observe the formation of defects and the propagation of cracks. The photolytic effect—the chemical decomposition by the action of light—in silver chloride has been utilized to reveal dislocations associated with the fatigue deformation. This paper describes observations made on the slip band extrusion and intrusion and discusses applications and limitations of a metallurgical model of the phenomena under consideration.
