The ASTM Tentative Recommended Practice for Reporting Particle Size Characteristics of Pigments (D 1366-55 T)1 was published in 1955 after Group 13 for Fineness Characteristics of Pigments of Subcommittee XV of ASTM Committee D-l cn Paint, Varnish, Lacquer, and Related Products had struggled with this problem for 5 years. This paper deals with the development cf that recommended practice, the reasons for it, and discusses some technological phases of particle size measurement and reporting that were brought up in the committee.
