Fundamentally, the purpose of fire tests for building materials and structures is to provide a basis for comparison of the behavior of different building elements under fire exposure conditions. These tests must be standardized and be of a kind which provides a means of classification for their utilization in building codes. If this is not accomplished, confusion is the result and fire disaster follows.
