Electrochemical methods are extremely useful for the study of aqueous corrosion phenomena, particularly when utilized in conjunction with other techniques. Basic electrochemical principles are reviewed and examples given of application of a variety of electrochemical techniques to corrosion. Standards of ASTM Subcommittee Gl.ll on Electrochemical Measurements in Corrosion Testing describe some useful experimental guidelines for the application of many of the techniques discussed.
