The three most popular procedures for determining soluble trace heavy metal pollutants in seawater are: atomic absorption spectroscopy, thermal neutron activation analysis, and anodic stripping voltammetry. The applicability of these techniques are reviewed in terms of the respective detection limit capabilities, analytical difficulties imposed by the major ion matrix, chemical speciations, and pre-analysis preparation requirements.
