SYMPOSIA PAPER

Introductory Statement
SourceThe symposium, on which this book is based, was organized to present the basic fundamentals of analytical chemistry for those who, because of the recent de-emphasis on the teaching of analytical chemistry, never learned them and for those who would like a review. In addition to the technical fundamentals there is a human element. This takes the form of a syndrome on Standard Reference Materials (SRM) and a syndrome on replicate analysis. In the former only a value within one or two integers of the certified value is reported. In the latter syndrome all of the replicate values tend to be the same, even in some cases, to the last significant integer.
