Suggested Methods of Test for Load-Deflection Characteristics of Pavement Systems by Means of the Benkelman Beam

These methods cover procedures for applying a known load through a pneumatic-tired wheel or wheel assembly to any exposed layer of a pavement system, for example, the subgrade, the subbase, or the base, during construction, or to the final pavement surface, and observing the resulting vertical movements at a selected point on the layer surface. Ordinarily, tests are conducted on the pavement system surface.
