The use of aerial photographs in evaluation of engineering characteristics of soil and rock has as its primary basis the interpretation of geological processes at work in the environment, and thus can be said to be a geologic art. Airphoto interpretation is distinct from photogrammetry in that it does not involve measurements made from photographs, except in an incidental way.
