Nonwoven Fabrics and Synthetic Fiber Papers: Technology and End Uses
SourceRecent advances in textile and paper technology have made possible products from these two industries whose end uses are closely parallel or substantially identical. The nonwoven fabrics produced by the textile industry in many cases resemble paper structures, and the use of synthetic and semisynthetic fibers with conventional papermaking equipment gives rise to products effective in applications where paper has not normally been used in the past. Particularly, in the areas of end use which overlap, it is difficult and perhaps unnecessary to differentiate synthetic fiber papers from nonwoven fabrics. After all, in the broadest sense, ordinary paper may be thought of as a “nonwoven fabric.”
