Development of Physically Based Void Swelling Equations for Engineering and Design Use
SourceThe physical understanding of void swelling in cold-worked 316 austenitic steel obtained from the rate-theory model has been distilled into a semi-empirical equation designed specifically for engineering use. Several physically complicated variables have been reduced to fitting parameters which reflect only their original meanings. The essential role of the void density and stress are highlighted. The equation has been incorporated into the fuel element modeling code FRUMP, and calculations of actual pin performance are used to assess the usefulness of the model.
