A Study of Soil-Structure Interaction of Buried Concrete Pipe

Source

A long-range research project was undertaken by the American Concrete Pipe Association to investigate the nature of the loading imposed on a concrete pipe when it is buried at a significant depth below the surface of the ground. The project consisted of an experimental and an analytical phase. The data from the experimental programs were used to assist in the development of a comprehensive finite-element program which can simulate the behavior of buried pipelines. This paper presents an overview of the entire project and describes in detail the structural aspects of the experimental phases of the research program.
