Laboratory Studies of Maximum and Minimum Dry Densities of Cohesionless Soils
SourceSome of the differences in results of tests for the maximum and minimum dry densities of cohesionless soils are examined. A comparative test program to investigate reproducibility of results of maximum and minimum densities for two types of sands is discussed, and an empirical correlation of the uniformity coefficient versus maximum and minimum densities is presented. A comparison is made of the Providence Vibrated Density method and the vibratory table method.
It is shown that one of the important variables in determining the maximum density of cohesionless soils using the vibratory table method is the amplitude of the vibrating mold.
