The gaseous or liquid oxygen filter is a safety component which retains undesirable particles as they move downstream. The experience of industry and accident records show the importance of using the right type of filter for a given application and ensuring the quality of the filter's construction. Fire reports highlight ignition mechanisms, kindling chain, and the importance of proper location of oxygen filters in different configurations and in industrial conditions. Appropriate recommendations are made in terms of design, installation and maintenance.
