A Place for Voluntary Standards
SourceVoluntary standards are defined as standards used voluntarily. Of the more than 23 000 voluntary engineering standards in use today, most are commercial standards. The preparation of these standards represents the contributions of thousands of experts who write “consensus” standards that in some way affect every product, service, process, or environment. The future of voluntary standards will be assured if those standards are adequate and their use satisfactory.
