An apparatus is described to measure the viscoelastic properties of greige and tensilized cords at frequencies, strain-amplitudes, pretensions, and temperatures which exist in tires during service. It is shown that the response of cords is nonlinear and time dependent. Properties of polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) cords are presented and the effects of tensilizing conditions and curing of tires are discussed. It is shown that tensilizing conditions and curing conditions have an important effect on dynamic modulus and loss factor.
