A steel cord processing problem, having the potential to affect the achievement of the proper belt geometry, occurred during the early development of steel belted radial tires. Identification of the steel cord property responsible, development of test procedures to screen incoming steel tire cord, and the successful efforts of most steel cord suppliers to correct the problem are detailed in this paper.
