Protective Behavior of Anodic Zirconium Oxide Film
SourceAnodized zirconium when oxidized thermally gives better oxidation resistance than zirconium metal. This protective behavior is significant for low anodizing current density, thick anodic film, and low oxidation temperature. In the initial stages of thermal oxidation, no weight gain due to growth conditions was observed during a certain time interval and incubation period. The presence of this incubation period is discussed in terms of oxygen dissolution and the creation of lattice defects. A model is presented to give their relative contribution.
