Volatility Control by ASTM Method D 2887-73, A Feasibility Study
SourceData are presented summarizing the work being performed in evaluating the feasibility of accomplishing volatility control of petroleum products, in particular, gasoline, by means of ASTM Test for Boiling Range Distribution of Petroleum Fractions by Gas Chromatography (D 2887-73).
A broad cross section of gasolines picked up during market surveys in summer and winter were analyzed and the volatility parameters calculated. A set of quality control parameters based on this information has been developed which is relatable to Reid vapor pressure (RVP), ASTM Test for Distillation of Petroleum Products (D 86-67), distillation, etc.
Secondly, data are presented illustrating the approach to replacing ASTM Method D 86-67 and ASTM Test for Distillation of Petroleum Products at Reduced Pressure (D 1160-61). with ASTM Method D 2887-73 for the monitoring of refinery distillation control.
