Torsional Fatigue Behavior of Unidirectional Resin Matrix Composites
SourceTorsional fatigue data are presented for boron/epoxy and graphite/epoxy composites. The failure criterion for the tests is shear modulus reduction. The modulus reduction is shown to be caused by cracks that occur in resin-rich portions of the composites. Resistance to torsional fatigue is found to increase as fiber distribution becomes more uniform and as interfiber distance is decreased.
