Effect of Composition on the Sensitivity of Structural Steel to Irradiation Embrittlement
SourceAbout 75 low alloy steels that have been irradiation tested at 450 to 550 F (232 to 288 C) have been chemically analyzed for copper, aluminum, total nitrogen, and combined nitrogen. Uncombined nitrogen content has been found to have a strong modifying action on the effectiveness of copper in controlling sensitivity to irradiation embrittlement at 450 to 550 F (232 to 288 C).
