Static Fatigue in High-Performance Ceramics
SourceStatic fatigue failure in ceramics is often assumed to be due to one mechanism: slow crack growth from preexisting flaws. Multiple mechanisms of failure may be operative, however. Stress rupture data for two materials, hot-pressed silicon nitride and sintered silicon carbide, will be presented and interpreted in terms of multiple mechanisms.
