Chapter 14—Development of Compatibility for Clinical Effectiveness: Monitoring Devices
SourceStandards for monitoring devices and telemetry in the health care field have traditionally focused primarily on performance effectiveness of a device or on safety considerations for the patient and attendant medical person. As a result, adequate performance and safety standards for commonly used devices exist and are usually developed initially vt^hen a new product or technology is introduced to the marketplace. That is not to say that all the necessary standards have been written or are under development. In particular, standards associated with maintenance, durability, and long-term reliability are needed. Nevertheless, the area that requires the greatest attention is systems compatibility.
