Chapter 6—Testing Tools: Development of Measurement Standards for Edge Characterization of Intraocular Lenses
SourceIntraocular lenses are small, plastic replacement lenses implanted in the eyes of human patients who have had their natural lenses removed, usually as a result of cataract surgery. About 400 000 people undergo cataract surgery each year, and of that number, 100 000 have intraocular lens implants. Although the operation is generally successful, the edges of some lens' designs, if not properly finished, irritate or damage the eye badly enough to require additional treatment.
