Standards for the Assay of Radionuclides in Solid Environmental Samples
SourceThis paper discusses radioactivity standards in the form of naturally occurring solid materials for use in the assay of solid environmental samples for radioactivity. Topics include the selection and preparation of materials for these standards, “spiking” with radionuclides (if desired), induced segregation of particles, availability and proper use of these standards, and their application to both radio-chemical and nondestructive types of assay. The role these standards have in quality-assurance programs is also considered.
