Maximum airport storage and fuel dispensing temperatures were collected from various parts of the world. These data have been reduced to probabilities of occurrence in three latitudinal zones so that it is possible to estimate the probability of reaching a particular maximum fuel temperature that can be compared to the fuel's flash point. The paper also reviews ambient temperatures in the same geographic areas. In the contiguous 48 states of the United States both airport storage and ambient temperature tend to reach a maximum near 38°C (100°F) while more typical upper limits of fuel storage temperatures are between 27 and 32°C (80 and 90°F). Any discussion on flash point reduction below 38°C (100°F) must recognize these facts.
