Epidemiological Consideration in the Application of Indicator Bacteria in North America
SourceThe microbiological needs of the epidemiologist for the investigation of waterborne disease outbreaks are reviewed. The density of indicators needs to be determined during outbreaks, but the isolation of pathogens from the water provides more definitive data. It is suggested that the measurement of chlorine residual is more useful than bacteriological monitoring of drinking water supplies.
